With a Donor Advised Fund, donor(s) periodically make donations that will be given to other public charities. The donor may make suggestions about distributing both the fund’s income and principal whenever and as often as they wish. Typically these distributions are 5% of the fair market value of the fund. Over time, as the fund’s principal grows, the donor has more money to recommend to be distributed to a charity, than would have been available through the original gift(s).
The Catholic Foundation:
- fully invests the fund’s assets.
- helps ensure that all distributions comply with Internal Revenue Service regulations.
- encourages distributions to either Catholic or non-Catholic charities within the
Catholic Diocese of Green Bay. - reserves the right to refuse to contribute to any organization that violates Catholic values,
although this seldom happens.
Anyone may create a Donor Advised Fund by contributing current and/or future gifts through wills, trusts, and bequests. Gifts may be in the form of cash, securities or other appreciated property.
