Since 1997 the Catholic Foundation has partnered with individuals and families interested in making difference in lives of others through the mission of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Foundation can help you customize a giving plan that establishes your endowment or fund to benefit your parish, Catholic school, the Diocese or other Catholic organizations.
There are three main types of funds or endowments individuals or organizations can establish:
Donor Advised
A Donor Advised Fund is like having your own family foundation. You decide on the name of your fund, receive the tax benefits, and recommend which charities receive distributions — when you want. The charities selected need to be a 501(c)3 and must not do something contrary to Catholic social teaching. Many families choose to establish a donor advised fund and give their annual charitable gifts through the donor advised fund.
Designated Endowment
A designated endowment means the principal is protected forever and distributions for a designated charity will be made forever leaving a wonderful legacy for your family. The distribution amount for an endowment is typically 5% each year. Many people have established endowments to benefit the organizations they love most.
Custodial Fund
A custodial fund provides distribution flexibility for organizations. It is possible to distribute more than the standard 5% distribution each year and the entire fund can be expended. Custodial funds can also distribute 5% each year and last forever.
